Dr. James Alan Herd graduated in 1956 from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine in Canada. In 1963, he completed his training in Physiology, Psychobiology and Internal Medicine at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. From 1963 until 1979 he served on the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard Medical School conducting research, education and clinical medicine in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease.
In 1980, he was appointed Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and Director of the Institute for Preventive Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital. He retired from his academic appointments in 2001. He is licensed to practice medicine by the State of Texas.
Since 2013, he has been providing medical support for programs to reduce risk for hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and stroke using personal face to face interaction and telehealth technology.
His experience combining personal contact and telehealth technology makes it possible to provide the best possible support for education and management of diabetes and hypertension to prevent heart disease, stroke, cancer and dementia.
